Paul M. Gaston is the grandson of E.B. Gaston, the founder of the Fairhope Single Tax Colony, and Professor of History Emeritus in the University of Virginia. He joined the faculty in 1957, and taught in the Corcoran Department of History until his retirement in 1997. His special interests are Southern History, the American Civil Rights Movement, and the South African liberation struggle. He was president of the Southern Regional Council from 1984-88 and has been a member of its executive committee since 1974. (credit http://www.virginia.edu)
