The University of Alabama Center for Public Television will soon be one of the first public television facilities in the South to purchase and begin producing programs in High Definition. When viewed on High Definition television sets, these programs will feature a wider picture that is clearer and more vivid than standard television programs that are currently broadcast.

The first project shot in High Definition will be a documentary about the arts in Alabama, which will likely be the first locally produced High Definition program aired on Alabama Public Television in 2002.
