UNIVERSITY OF ALABAMA TELEVISION
PROGRAMS For the second time in three years a national association of public broadcasters has declared that the countrys most outstanding documentary was produced at The University of Alabama. Im In the Truth Business: William Bradford Huie was recognized for excellence at the National Educational Telecommunications Association annual meeting in Austin, Tex. The program was produced by The University of Alabama Center for Public Television and Radio (CPT&R) as part of The Alabama Experience series on Alabama Public Television. Two years ago With Fingers of Love, a CPT&R documentary about Alabamas Freedom Quilting Bee, received the same award. Im In the Truth Business: William Bradford Huie tells the story of the best-selling writer from Alabama who became a controversial figure in the 1950s when he practiced checkbook journalism while investigating civil rights murders in Mississippi. The program was written and produced by Brent Davis and UA English professor Don Noble. Earlier this year the program received Emmy awards for writing and music. NETA also honored two distance education television programs produced by CPT&R and the Center for Communication and Educational Technology. Integrated Science 7 received a second place award and Integrated Science 6 was awarded an honorable mention in instructional programming categories. These distance education programs are broadcast and delivered by satellite to classrooms across the United States and Canada. The judges also commended The University of Alabama for its commitment to science education through instructional television. |
